Oval polychrome enamel plate with gold highlights representing Henri IV in bust turned three-quarter to the left, counter-enamel in fondant; inscription (H)ENRI-REX -IIII-. Mounted in a painted enamel frame with fleur-de-lys at the corners on a midnight blue background, blue speckled counter-enamel. Gilt bronze frame decorated with foliage and flowers. Limoges, first half of the 17th century H_7,5 cm - W_ 6,5 cm ; H total_12 cm - W total_8,5 cm Collection label on the back : 129 (accidents and lacks) Provenance : Former collection of the Count of X, Marquis of Z; then through family descent to the present owners Bibliography : quoted in the obituary on the Count of X, Marquis of Z, peer of France, published in 1878 : "M. de X had still gathered beautiful enamels, of which a very remarkable portrait of Henri IV, seals of the Middle Ages and modern times...".
