Bottle of very old Jamaican rum from 1760. Several old labels bearing the date of the vintage, or mentioning "Re-corked on August 3, 1935". Mid-shoulder level. Bottle in green tinted glass. H_29,8 cm Provenance : Emile Martignole in Barcelona, then by descent to its current owner. Note: Frenchman settled since 1849 at 10 Escudillers in Barcelona, under the sign "Tienda del Colmado", Emile Martignole (father) holds trade of wines and spirits, importing in particular wines from Champagne, Burgundy, and Bordeaux. He became famous for his "meat and chicken jelly", a speciality of the house, praised for its dietetic virtues. In 1922, Emile Martignole moved to the very chic Paseo de Gracia, number 43, on the first floor of the Casa Batlló, a modernist building designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí in the early years of the 20th century. He remained there until the years before the Civil War. According to family tradition, this bottle of rum comes from a batch of very old Jamaican rum, dated 1760, that Emile Martignole or his son Emilio bought at a World's Fair, perhaps the one in Paris in 1878 or 1900.
