A NATIONAL TREASURE
(Private sale)

Louis XV's chest of drawers at Fontainebleau

SEQUANA, Auction House, as part of a private sale, has facilitated the return of a royal commode, classified as a “national treasure”, to Château de Fontainebleau.

Delivered by Gilles JOUBERT, cabinetmaker, in 1754, for the King's Chamber at the Château de Fontainebleau, this chest of drawers is considered to be the last piece of furniture to have belonged to Louis XV which was still in private hands.

Sent to the Château de Marly in 1788 where it remained until the Revolution, the chest of drawers was probably dispersed during the revolutionary sales. We find its trace in 1936 when it entered the collections of Count Adolphe Niel.
