[ALCHIMIE] COHAUSEN, Johann Heinrich - Lot 26
[ALCHIMIE] COHAUSEN, Johann Heinrich Hermippus redivivus, ou le Triomphe du Sage, sur la vieillesse et le tombeau ; Contenant une méthode pour prolonger la vie la vigueur de l'homme. Translated from the English, after Dr. Cohausen, the Second London Edition by M. De La Place Bruxelles et Paris, chez Maradan, 1789, two volumes bound in an in-8 volume, contemporary full brown basane, smooth spine, XVI, 192 ; IV, 194 pp. and a frontispiece portrait of M. De La Place engraved by Nicollet after Nicolas Cochin. Spine consolidated, restoration of the headpieces, an old mention of ownership in pen cut out in the center of the title page with restitution of paper, with no lack of text revealing a mirrored ink transfer on the portrait. Pen-and-ink bookplate in Hebrew characters at the front of the volume. Dorbon 789: "The panacea of which the author speaks is none other than the 'spirit of human blood' of which Boyle was so fond. This work also contains a wealth of interesting information on the main Hermetic philosophers: Basil Valentin, Morien, Thomas Vaughan, Starkey, Raymond Lulle, Artephius who lived beyond 1025 years, de Flamel and his wife Pernelle...". Caillet 2425: "A curious and rare book, according to which human life could be extended beyond normal limits, by a kind of elegant vampirism that combines with the most scientific conclusions. Hermeticism occupies a large place in this work, which also contains astonishing revelations about Nicolas Flamel, who, according to the author, was still alive in his time".
