[ALCHIMIE] GLASER, Christophle - Lot 52
Restorations to covers and corners. A classic work of Alchemy, transcribed by the Apothecary Moyse Charas (1618-1698), who was the Master of Nicolas Lémery. Caillet discusses the author's involvement in the poisons affair, and the possibility that he supplied the Marquise de Brinvilliers, via Sainte-Croix, with the poisons she used. Doubts remain as to the circumstances of his disappearance or death, and whether or not he was the author of this treatise on chemistry, for which Moyse Charas claims authorship (preface to his "Thériaque d'Andromachus", Paris 1668). The original edition appeared in 1663 with the author. Caillet 2201. Dorbon 1875. A chapter on Thériaque Royale.
