Faint stains on the title pages and at the ends of the margins of a few leaves. Ex-libris: wet stamp in the name of Jean - Henri Hierthes, illustrator and printer in Wissembourg.
This is a reprint of the 1696 German translation of L'arbre de la foi et l'arbre de la vie, a collection of visions by the famous English mystic Jane Leade (1623 - 1704), in whom Sédir took a close interest. His translation of "Le Messager céleste de la Paix Universelle" was published by Chamuel in 1894, preceded by a bio-bibliographical note from which the following lines are extracted: "The works of this illuminated woman, first a pupil then director of the physician John Pordage, and founder of the Society of Philadelphians, comprise exclusively, not Hermetic treatises, but amplifications of Christian mysticism. She was a clairvoyant and, like Boehme, describes only the inner pictures that unfolded before her [...] All her works were translated into German in Amsterdam, 1696-1698, by an anonymous person who was not unknown to Gichtel. Saint-Martin's Correspondence with Kirchberger contains many passages relating to this school of mystics."
