[NOSTRADAMUS] [LE ROUX, Jean] Un Solitaire - Lot 84
[NOSTRADAMUS] [LE ROUX, Jean] Un Solitaire La Clef de Nostradamus, isagoge ou introduction au véritable sens des prophéties de ce fameux auteur, avec la critique touchant les sentimens et interprétations de ceux qui ont ci-devant écrit sur cette matière; ouvrage très curieux et même très-utile à toutes les personnes qui veulent lire ou étudier avec progrès ces sortes de prophéties, par un solitaire A Paris, chez Pierre Giffart, 1710, in-12, full contemporary basane, ribbed spine, decorated, marbled edges, LVI, 470 pp. Corners and headpieces restored, worm work at end of volume without affecting text, brown stain (fire?) at top of last 26 leaves (text legible). Caillet, 6579. Dorbon, 2661. Benazra, pp. 284-290, devotes seven pages to the interpretation of Jean Le Roux, curé de Louvicamp (diocese of Rouen), according to whom the language used by Nostradamus has its origins in the Latin poets. Benazra also points out that many modern authors still apply this method of investigation. The author's signature in pen at the bottom of page 161 authenticates his impression. A pen correction contemporary with the work. Provenance: Jean-Charles de Fontbrune Collection (his stamp at the bottom of the title page).
